OTT Release: Rakshit Shetty’s much-anticipated debut web series production, Ekam, finally has a release date. Produced by Paramvah Studios and created by Sumanth Bhat and Sandeep PS, Ekam is an anthology consisting of seven unique stories. After facing hurdles in finding a platform to showcase Ekam, Rakshit Shetty decided to take matters into his own hands.
The series will be available for streaming starting July 13.
The series will be available exclusively on its dedicated platform, www.ekamtheseries.com. This move comes after mainstream OTT platforms showed reluctance to pick up a Kannada-language web series.

Actor, director, and producer Rakshit Shetty made a surprising announcement on X (formerly Twitter) on June 17. He revealed that his new Kannada web series, Ekam, would be released on his own platform due to what he described as ‘no takers’ for the series in the OTT market. This statement sparked discussions and raised eyebrows among audiences and insiders in the Kannada film industry.
Rakshit Shetty has been a prominent figure in Kannada cinema since his debut in 2010, known for content-driven films. His recent successes include the pan-Indian hit 777 Charlie in 2022 and the blockbuster Sapta Saagaradaache Ello - Side A and Sapta Saagaradaache Ello - Side B in 2023.
In his social media post, Rakshit reflected on the journey of Ekam, which began in early 2020 amidst optimism but faced setbacks due to the pandemic. Despite completing the series in October 2021 and being eager to share it with audiences, he encountered repeated hurdles in securing a platform for its release. Frustrated by the lack of interest from mainstream OTT platforms, Rakshit and his team decided to launch Ekam independently.
Insiders from the Kannada film industry have voiced similar challenges with getting OTT deals.
Despite these challenges, films like Kantara, KGF, Vikrant Rona, and 777 Charlie have demonstrated the potential of Kannada stories to resonate across India. However, stakeholders agree that consistent delivery of quality content is crucial to gaining trust and expanding audience appeal, especially in the evolving landscape of digital platforms.
