A mysterious shiny monolith has appeared in a Nevada desert, sparking speculation among locals and people online about what it means and who installed it. The reflective monolith was spotted by Las Vegas police during a search and rescue mission over the weekend in a hiking area an hour north of Sin City.
"We see a lot of weird things when people go hiking, like not being prepared for the weather, not bringing enough water... but check this out!" the Las Vegas police said in a social media post.
The photographs shared by the police show the lone vertical slab reflecting the dry, rugged terrain and rocky desert landscape against a bright blue sky. It was not immediately clear where the object had come from, how it had arrived, or what would happen to it next. After sharing the image on social media, a spokesperson for the police department said it would not be commenting on the monolith.

The mysterious monolith has left people searching for answers, and many, on a lighter note, argued that it was some sign of aliens coming.
It should be noted that mysterious monoliths had taken the world by storm in 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, 23 documented monoliths were found globally between November 18 and December 8.
The first such monolith was spotted in the Utah desert on November 18, 2020, and vanished on November 27. On the same day later, another mysterious monolith appeared outside the Romanian city of Piatra Neamț and disappeared on December 2.

While it was gone, a third one appeared on top of Pine Mountain in Atascadero, California, on December 2. It disappeared on December 3 and reappeared on December 4. Days later, on December 7, another monolith appeared in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which disappeared the same day. In March this year, a monolith had appeared on a hillside in southeast Wales.
