The film is based on a Kannada folk tale about an old woman who steals a rooster, making her village stay dark forever.

What Is The Cannes Award For The First Prize Winner?

The first prize winner at the Cannes Film Festival receives a 15,000 euro (13,50,044 Indian rupees) grant.

Who Won The Second And Third Prizes?

Third prize: Bunnyhood, directed by Mansi Maheshwari from Meerut, India, and a former student of NIFT Delhi.

  • She made the film while studying at the National Film and Television School in the UK. 
  • Prize: a grant of 7,500 euros (6,74,978 Indian rupees) from the film festival.

Second prize: Out of the Widow Through the Wall, directed by Asya Segalovich from Columbia University.

  • The Chaos She Left Behind, made by Nikos Kolioukos from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. 
  • Prize: 11,250 euros (10,12,467 Indian rupees) each from the Cannes Film Festival.

Screenings:

Bunnyhood, Out of the Widow Through the Wall, and The Chaos She Left Behind will be screened at Cinema du Pantheon on June 3 and at MK2 Quai de Seine on June 4.
