IAS officer Supriya Sahu shared the rescue story, stating that the elephant was found unwell and lying on the ground, with her 3-month-old calf in severe condition. 

What happened with the mother elephant?

The calf was confused and distressed as it wandered around her. When the crew discovered the mother elephant, they swiftly consulted experts and veterinarians to devise a rescue plan.

Later, they successfully hoisted the mother elephant using a crane and sustained her for three days while she was treated by veterinarians. During the therapy, the calf joined the herd and other elephants in the neighbouring forest, returning to the mother at night.

The continual care of the professionals helped the mother elephant restore her strength, and after a few days of intense therapy, she was ultimately released back into the wild.

IAS Supriya Sahu’s post on X reads, “From despair to hope and from struggle to triumph, this is the incredible story of a wild elephant mother’s fight for survival backed by a dedicated and professional team of foresters and vets from Coimbatore in the Tamil Nadu Forest Department who worked tirelessly to save her.”  

“Thanks to the treatment, she gained enough strength and was released to freedom in the wild today. We are monitoring her to keep an eye on her well-being. Gratitude and kudos to the entire team for their efforts. Way to go team,” she added.
