The worst feeling in the world is doing something for the ones you love out of the goodness of your heart and not getting so much as a 'thank you' in return. Something of the sort happened to this woman who wanted to thank her parents for taking care of her kids with an all-expenses-paid trip but it backfired and how. Here's what went on.

Why did the woman's parents still manage to complain?

The woman who turned to Facebook to share her ordeal wished to remain anonymous. She explained how she sent her parents on a lovely vacation-- “as a thank you basically for my mom helping me so much with all of my kids when I had my 4th baby”--and that she had paid for airfare, lodging or a rental car during their stay in Kauai. The sweet gestures backfired after her phone started blowing up with text messages complaining about how expensive their meals were.

She shared her story on the “Am I The A**hole?” forum. “I lined it up so it would be 5 days during their 36th wedding anniversary,” she wrote explaining that basically all bills--plane tickets, hotel and rental car-- were paid for and all they had to do was show up and enjoy. But boy was she in for a shocker!

They sent a photo of a meal they'd had recently, amounting to $104.31 adding how unnecessarily expensive it was. “Quit your complaining you’re in paradise on a free vacation,” the anonymous poster replied. After this, her parents further complained that their “cheapest” meal was still $40, while others were roughly $50 to $60.

Not taking it anymore, she snapped: “Ok then noted I’ll send you to Arkansas for your next trip."

She asked the internet if she was being too tough on them, while also adding that this happened despite the fact that her father makes “well over 100k a year.” But much to her surprise she found support wen she was least expecting it.

“I literally can’t imagine receiving such a nice gift and doing nothing but complaining about it,” wrote one user. “If they were going to be that concerned you’d think they’d look some things up about food cost and stuff beforehand and politely decline if they didn’t want to spend that money.”

“That is a lovely thing you’ve done for your parents and I’m sorry they can’t seem to appreciate it. I felt embarrassed on their behalf reading these texts, but I love your responses,” added another. “Send them a screen shot of the definition of ‘ungrateful’ if they carry on.” “I would be so mad,” quipped a third.
