34 YO Singapore Influencer Becomes Grandmother, Fuels Debate On Early Parenthood

An influencer from Singapore has generated controversy after becoming a grandma at the age of 34. According to the South China Morning Post, Shirli Ling, 35, gained her first grandchild last year when her 17-year-old son became a father. Notably, the influencer who owns a chicken hotpot restaurant is married three times and has five children. She had her first son at the age of 17, then another son and three daughters.

Ling recounted her experience as a grandmother at such a young age in an Instagram video posted in March, describing it as "good and bad". She said she didn't panic when her eldest son's fiancée became pregnant last year, joking that her son was inspired by her to become a parent at the age of 17.

She stated, ''Compared to other youngsters, he is more curious and enjoys playing. So, when he told me his partner had become pregnant, I wanted him to make his own decisions and accept responsibility for his actions." "Depends on how you look at it and manage it," she continued.

In another video, she stated that she would never "encourage" her children to have children so young, knowing the challenges she faced as a young mother herself. However, she stated that she prefers to offer advise and support to her kid rather than reprimand him.

Her posts generated debate, with some labeling her a ''failed mother,'' while others praised her for her support of her children. Some quipped that she might become a "great-grandmother at 53 and a great-great-grandmother at 72."
